Medserv lab reporting system
Report and laboratory management system for a large Hungarian cytology and histology lab, evolving since 2012 and handling hundreds of thousands of reports a year.
The system runs the whole workflow of a cytology and histology laboratory: patients, referring institutes and doctors, samples, report templates, diagnoses and the reports themselves. It began as a simple document store for reports and gradually grew into a full laboratory information system.
The most important part is the integration of laboratory equipment: a cassette printer, a slide printer, a Roche Ventana device, barcode scanners and digital whole-slide images (WSI). The system handles about 200,000 cytology and 60,000 histology reports a year.
The application started in 2012 and was renewed from 2018. The current fourth-generation rewrite is finished, and its integration with the national health data platform (EESZT2) is awaiting approval. For about ten years one to two developers worked on it each month, since then one person a month.
