PROJECT 43 OF 53 · 2019
Our own startup: peer-to-peer video streaming that cut CDN traffic by 60-76%, with paying customers including Videa.
StreamDevil (formerly Etope) is a peer-assisted video streaming service that runs on top of an existing CDN. Viewers' browsers pass the video to each other, so both on-demand and live streaming need less CDN bandwidth; customers could integrate it with a single line of code.
We built it as our own startup: György and Mihály, the two owners of nomo, were its co-founders. It had paying customers, and Videa used it, achieving 60-76% traffic savings. We eventually closed the project because winning customers proved hard.
What was built: the browser SDK, the service that creates torrent files from videos, the tracker, the reporter collecting viewing data, the customer dashboard and the marketing site with demo and pricing.
